Bethania De la Cruz has developed into one of
the top offensive weapons in today’s women volleyball relying on her powerful
spikes and serves. The captain of the Dominican Republic team displayed all her
talent during the final series of this year’s Korean Premier V League when she
put together three astonishing consecutive 50-plus point performances while
leading GS Caltex to the title and claiming the honor as the Most Valuable
Player. Betty, as she is affectionately called by her peers and teammates,
turned 27 last May and is signed to play for Eczacibasi in the Turkish League
in the upcoming season. The big scene is not strange to the offensive exploits
of the Dominican as she blasted a World Cup record 42 points against Germany in
the 2010 edition of the FIVB event in Japan.
