Bari is the capital city of the province of Bari and of the Apulia region, one of the richest archaeological regions in Italy. It was first colonized by Mycenanean Greeks and received influence from many Mediterranean cultures and populations.
Bari it’s well known for being the city where the relics of San Nicola are preserved. This privilege has made Basilica di San Nicola one of the most important centres of the Orthodox Church in Western Europe. Bari has a solid mercantile tradition and has always been a focal point in the trade and in the political and cultural contacts with Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Its port is now the largest passenger port in the Adriatic Sea. Since 1930 the city holds the Fiera del Levante in Bari.
