Bari, Italy, September 11, 2014 – In less than two weeks, Bari will be playing host to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014. The organisers have released a video to promote the competition and showcase the beauty of the capital city of Apulia. Young players turned actors explore the city of Bari, accompanied by the competition's official volleyball.
As they move through the city, the video's young protagonists display their digging, setting, and spiking skills with a fictional net that can be set up at any moment. They take their show to the seaside, where they are surrounded by tourists, but also to the city's main square, in front of Bari's main church, San Nicola, where a wedding ceremony is about to take place. The show also passes by the famous Petruzzelli theatre and ends at Palaflorio, the arena that will host the World Championship and where the first Pool D matches are scheduled to take place on September 23.
The video was conceived by the local organisers and filmed with the help of the young players from OrsaAspav Cuti Volley Capurso, a local volleyball club, all dressed in t-shirts displaying the official logo of the World Championship. It also features Mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro in one of the sessions.
“Our city is getting ready to host the World Championship,” the mayor said. “This is a world-class sporting event with a global allure that will help draw attention to our city from a large international audience. We are very proud with having Palaflorio as one of the venues chosen to host matches of this competition. Our arena is a little jewel and money has been spent over the last years in order to upgrade its facilities and make it suitable to host world-class competitions. The players, the coaching staff, as well as journalists and fans will find a place which is equipped with the most modern technology and where they will enjoy comfort and safety at the same time.”
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all sports fans to enjoy for about two weeks the emotions of a World Championship, and I hope that many of our citizens, with this event, will get involved and get closer to the positive values that volleyball can spread around, something that they can use also in their everyday life,” the mayor added. “I hope that the stands will be filled up with young spectators who will enjoy this opportunity for their personal growth as well as for the future development of our community.”
