Our starting point is today’s victory, Argentina’s Orduna says

Argentina team shared the moment of their first victory of 2014 World Championship with the tournament mascot

Rome, September 28, Italy, 2014 - Argentina closed Pool A's first round with a straight set win over Tunisia in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014. Argentina (1-4) finished fifth in the pool and Tunisia were (0-5).

Tunisia Coach Mohamed Messelmani: "We started the competition very bad because we had to compete against very good teams at an international level. It was interesting to play against Dominican Republic and Argentina, but we lost confidence from the beginning of those matches. Now we have to think at next year’s African Championship, that is a step for World Championship qualification. Among the teams we met, Germany was the one that didn’t let us play. We want that in our country - a resounding message that we enjoy this World Championship."

Mariem Brik Tunisia Captain: “We do not qualify always for the World Championship so it was important to be here, playing with excellent teams. I was very impressed by Italy in this tournament, but also Brazil and Turkey are very good teams for the final phase. Those teams have a high professionalism, the level is quite different between Africa and Europe."

Argentina Coach Guillermo Orduna: “We played in a very strong tournament, in which all teams did very well. We need to play at this level. Germany was the most impressive team for us, but there are so many others that can arrive at the end of the competition: USA, Brazil, Russia, China and Turkey above all. We restart from today’s victory."

Argentina Captain Paula Nizetich: "I’m happy to have finished the round with a victory. We knew Tunisia’s way to play, with many balls returning in our field and we were prepared. I liked Italy’s game and also Germany’s. For us this was a test to see where we are internationally and from here on we have to work hard."
