We were tired of hearing ‘bravos’ and then losing, says Turkey’s Barbolini

The two captains were both protagonists in Turkey vs Russia shocking finale

Modena, Italy, October 2, 2014 - Even trailing by two sets against Russia, Turkey did not give up and obtained a shocking 3-2 victory in FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2014 Pool F.

Massimo Barbolini, Turkey coach – “We were sick and tired of people telling us ‘bravo’ after we lost with honor. We had been waiting for this victory for too long, and even though we have no hopes whatsoever to get to the final six, we must still fight to stay in the World’s top 10."

Gozde Sonsirma, Turkey captain – “Down by two sets, you never hope you’d come back. But we did it, with strength and resilience, and we are really proud of what we did."

Yury Marichev, Russia coach – “I should congratulate Turkey over their impressive performance, but the final decision of calling a foul on our setter Kosianenko leaves a bitter taste inside my mouth: calls like that should not decide such beautiful matches."

Ekaterina Kosianenko, Russia captain – “Again, we kept our focus only for the first half of the match. The loss of concentration in the second part is really something we should be concerned about."
