Volleyball and art collide for a great cause in Milan

Uniform jerseys on display for VolleyArt benefiting Operation Smile

Milan, Italy, October 10, 2014 - Art and volleyball are coming together at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014 with money being raised for a worthy cause.

The official jerseys from the 24 participating teams in this World Championship that started September 23 and continue through this Sunday are being collected and shown in Milan for a special project called VolleyArt. But these collectibles are not your standard uniforms. Each jersey has artwork painted on them by the national team athlete who wears the uniform, giving them special and extra value showing some of the athletes' artistic views.

And it is all for a very good cause. At the end of FIVB's biggest women's volleyball event, the jerseys will be auctioned on-line and the proceeds donated to Operation Smile.

The international non-profit organization is the official charity partner of the Local Organizing Committee of the World Championship. The goal of the project is to contribute to its humanitarian mission: correction of severe facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate made possible through the thankful great work of volunteers doctors and other healthcare professionals.

National federations and teams enthusiastically joined the initiative. The athletes gave their personal contribution, and the fans will have the chance to own a official jersey of their favorite team.
