The third set was critical, but my girls are in top shape, says Russia's Marichev

Seeking concentration: Russia coach Yury Marichev

Modena, Italy, October 1, 2014 - Russia beat Bulgaria 3-1 in FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014 Pool F game. But the miracle comeback by the Bulgarian in the final part of the third set almost reopened a very entertaining game.

Vladimir Kuzyutkin, Bulgaria Coach: “We always need to remember who we’ve played with: Russia is one big candidate to the final victory. The mistakes we made in the first two sets were normal, but we lost the grip on the game in the fourth and Russia immediately punished us."

Strashimira Filipova, Bulgaria Captain: “Russia made us suffer with their very effective serve. We reacted with courage in the third and tried to use the same strategy in the fourth, but Russia made the right adjustments and deserved to win the game."

Yury Marichev, Russia Coach: “The third set was critical: we had never lost seven consecutive points in the World Championship, and this is something we should think over. However my players are in excellent shape, and must keep concentrated to win the next games."

Ekaterina Kosianenko, Russia Captain: “I am really happy with our performance today, even if we had that big blackout in the final part of the third set. The reaction we had in the fourth allows us to look at the future with optimism."
