Russia maintain winning start after defeating Mexico

Russia coach Yury Marichev said they had little information to prepare for the clash with the Mexican team

Verona, Italy, September 24, 2014 - Comments from captains and coaches of Russia and Mexico after Russia overpowered Mexico in straight sets at PalaOlimpia on Wednesday.

Russia captain Ekaterina Kosianenko:

“We won, but I can't say that the Mexican team was weak. We played as usual, but it hasn't been so easy to overcome, above all because Mexico showed an improvement during the match.”

Russia coach Yury Marichev:

“It's the first time that we meet this team, and we had very little information about them, so we tried to focus not on the game, but on ourselves and on our strenghts.”

Mexico captain Andrea Rangel:

“I'm a bit disappointed with the result, but I'm satisfied with the way my team and I played. Tomorrow morning we will play against Thailandia, and we will do our best.”

Mexico coach Jorge Miguel Azair:

“I'm proud of my girls, because they won more than they expected, and they played bravely and with determination against such a valuable team as Russia.”
