This will be the first time Argentina have competed at the World Championship in 12 years. In 2002 they finished 17th, winning one and losing four of their matches. Their qualification for the 2002 championship ended another 12-year wait, as their previous appearance was in 1990 when they finished 15th.  Before that, they came 18th in 1982. Argentina's highest World Championship finish remains eighth which they achieved on their debut at the competition in 1960.
The Argentinians have enjoyed considerable success at the South American Championship, and have claimed six silver and 12 bronze medals in total. Their most recent medal was a silver in the 2013 edition. In the same year, they finished 16th in the World Grand Prix, one place lower than in the previous edition in 2012. They have also appeared in four World Cups, with a best finish of eighth in 1973.
Argentina will enter the 2014 World Championship encouraged by a fifth place finish in Group 2 of the 2014 World Grand Prix. They will have to overcome the disappointment of missing out on a podium place at the 2014 Pan American Cup though, as they were beaten 3-2 by Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match.

In 2014 he steered the team to a fifth place finish in Group 2. He enjoyed greater success in leading his team to the bronze medal in the 2013 Pan American Cup and silver at the 2013 South American Championship.
