World No. 1 Brazil show their power versus Bulgaria

 

Jaqueline celebrate Brazil's straight-set win over Bulgaria

Trieste, Italy, September 23, 2014 - In front of 2’200 fans, Brazil won against Bulgaria 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) in the third match of the day in Pool B of the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship at PalaTrieste.

- Brazil and Bulgaria have gone head-to-head six times at the world championship. With today’s win Brazil improve to 4-3.
- Brazil have now won 22 of their last 24 matches. 
- Bulgaria are on a four-match losing streak.
- This is Bulgaria's first appearance at the World Championship since 2002, when they finished eighth after losing to Brazil in their classification match.

Brazil’s best scorer was Sheilla with 15 points while Dobriana Rabadzhieva and Elitsa Vasileva contributed 14 kills each for Bulgaria.



Brazil serving started with a Jaqueline ace but immediately a perfect Bulgarian block led to 1-1. Both team started really well until Brazil proved their supremacy in the middle of the first set. Brazil increased their lead until the second technical time out to six points. 
Vladimir Kuzyutkin tried a double substitution but it was not enough to worry Brazil. Thaisa’s and Jaque’s power moved to Brazilians forward to close out the first set 25-19.

Bulgaria quickly recovered after the loss of the second set due to good counter attack but three points rocked Brazil back on their heels. Two Brazilian mistakes led Bulgaria stay in touch and it was a close affair until 21-21. Sheilla showed her determination and when looking like sneaking ahead, she poped up with a vicious spike and Brazil led 23-22 and never looked back until 25-22. 

World No. 1 Brazil quickly led 8-2 in the third set before two aces and an excellent Bulgarian spike forced Jose Roberto to call a time out at 11-8. It worked as Brazil scored several points in a row to take a comfortable six-point lead at the second technical timeout. Rabadzhieva did her best to resist but the Brazilians, led by a thrilled fans community, kept the pace high until the final 25-16 set and 3-0 match win.
