With best record, Cameroon win ticket to FIVB Women's World Championship

 

Cameroon celebrates a win during the African Pool T qualifiers

Alger, Algeria,
March 1, 2014- Cameroon’s women's volleyball team will play in the FIVB
Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2014 Italy, after securing a ticket by
winning the African Pool T qualifiers with the best win-loss ratio.


Cameroon’s women, who
were in rest on the final day, needed Algeria to defeat Egypt on Saturday to
secure the highest win-loss ratio; which happened when Algeria pulled off a
five set victory 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 19-25, 29-27, 15-10).


With Algeria’s win,
Cameroon won the Pool T qualifiers with a win-loss ratio of 4-1 (13 points). Egypt
came second with the same ratio and 12 points. Algeria finished third with a
4-1 ratio and 11 points.


In the other final
match, Botswana clinched a straight-set victory over DR Congo (25-15, 25-19,
25-21). Botswana finished the competition in fourth position with 2-3 (6
points), while DR Congo dropped to 1-4 (3 points). Nigeria came in last
position with 0-5.


Cameroon joins Tunisia
(Pool U) as the two African Confederation teams qualified for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World
Championships, which will be held in Italy from September 23 to October 12, 2014.


Cameroon and
Tunisia, FIVB World Ranked 26th and 27th respectively, will compete against the
best women’s volleyball teams in the world at the most prestigious event in
international volleyball, aside from The Olympic Games. The African countries
will be divided into the four pools of six teams for the tournament on March
10, during the Drawing of Lots, which will be broadcast
live on FIVB.org
