Mexico City, Mexico, September 2 2014 - Mexican Women’s coach, Jorge Azair expects the World Championship in Italy to be a great learning experience and also a big stage for the projection of his players.
“If they show a good performance, they can be considered for American Universities or European Teams,” Azair stated during a training camp held at the Mexican Olympic Committee facilities.
In the preliminary phase of the world championship, Mexico will compete in Pool C against teams like Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Russia, United States and Thailand, all with experience as well as advantage in size and age.
Nevertheless, Azair is pretty high about the qualities and fighting spirit of the members of his team.
“They have to be creative at the stage of the world championship”, the coach said. “The preparation has been an intense one with the Pan American Cup, the Third Round Qualifier to the World Championship and the World Grand Prix so we are at a pre-competitive phase.”
To be in top physical shape and looking to improve the tactical aspects are part of the immediate goals during the training camp before departing to Slovenia where they will establish a training base and then move on to Italy for the FIVB World Championship.
Mexico’s age average is 23 years-old and the height is 1.86 meters.
“We know some of our rivals like Kazakhstan because we played them at the World Grand Prix and Thailand are also a very strong team, even though physically very similar to us,” he said.
“I think those are two matches that can be the keys for us to win. Our pool is really tough and complicated,” Azair said.
