Castro: “I’m nervous to play Russia and USA”

Brazil said they made too many errors playing against the Netherlands

Verona, Italy, October 2, 2014 – Brazil said they feel nervous ahead of the matches against Russia and USA after an inconsistent performance against the Netherlands on Thursday.

Brazil player Sheilla Castro: “We are satisfied for the victory and for the three points, but I'm also a bit disappointed because we had too many errors, and in fact we lost the first set. Now I'm quite nervous for the next matches against Russia and USA: they are two of the strongest teams of the Championship, so we'll have to stay focused and fight.”

Brazil coach José Roberto Lages Guimaraes: “We played good, good enough. When we lost the first set I was very sad about it because we played really nice. We did three or four mistakes in reception and the Netherlands believed they could win. I think in the second, third and fourth set the block and defense was better. After the first set I said don’t give up. I said if we started to attack more in (zone) four then we control the match.”

Netherlands coach Gido Vermeulen: “I'm satisfied with the first set, we played that set fairly well technically, it worked well and with a lot of substitutes we kept control of the set. We had really long and nice rallies between one point and the other, it was good volleyball, but in the end the Brazilians don't make mistakes and we made too many.”

Netherlands captain Robin De Kruijf: “We didn't start the first set that well, we were behind, but halfway through the set we started fighting back. Maybe Brazil were surprised by that, we fought till the end of the set and we got it. Then we hoped to keep playing on that level in the other sets, but Brazil have so much technical skills and techniques and we had difficulties in reacting to those.”
