President Medina congratulates Dominican women’s team

 

President Danilo Medina visited the Dominican team on the occasion of his participation in the opening ceremony of a United Nations meeting in Rome

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, October 14, 2014 - The members of the Dominican Republic women’s team have returned home to an enthusiastic welcome after their successful participation in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Italy, with Dominican Republic President Mr Danilo Medina congratulating the team for their fifth place at the tournament.

“It was an outstanding effort with a strong competitive spirit. During your participation in the competition held in Italy, the team was able to rise to levels never achieved by our country in the past,” said President Medina in a  letter of congratulations to Mr Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, who is president of the Women's Programme of the Dominican Volleyball Federation and president of the NORCECA Volleyball Confederation.

“We are proud of the fifth position you have brought back. Facing teams higher up the world rankings, you demonstrated your quality on the court and we know you put soul and heart in each match and battle to achieve this success,” President Medina added.

He also encouraged the athletes to recover energy and enthusiasm for their next tournament, which will be at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz next month, where the Dominicans will be three-time defending champions.

“You will always have the people of the Dominican Republic following your brilliant performances with interest and emotion,” Mr Medina concluded.

After finishing fifth at the World Championship in Italy, the Dominican Republic have moved up to sixth place in the FIVB world ranking, the best position ever for the country.
